Golden Spikes
|
 |
Wiley was nationally syndicated at the time of this cartoon to about three hundred papers. He received word that several papers refused to publish this cartoon. The editors were fearful that some readers might become offended. The fear of a remote possibility of offending anybody outweighed the risk to humorously entertain everybody through a popular and proven comic feature. Wiley did receive mail concerning this cartoon...all positive, except from those who were forced to search for the "spiked" cartoon in another newspaper.
